Biography

Strong Leadership for a Brighter Future

Mike’s dedication to public service started when he joined Millcreek Fire Company in 1971 and continues to this day. A retired Captain from the New Castle County Police Department with over 23 years of service to the communities of New Castle County, Mike is currently a Criminal Justice faculty member at Delaware Technical & Community College and serves as an advisor to students entering public service and civic involvement.

Mike is a native Delawarean who grew up in Wilmington and Newark and now lives in Hockessin with his wife, Lisa. He has three grown children—Michael, Nicholas and Christopher, who are all Eagle Scouts. Mike and Nick are troopers with the Delaware State Police; Chris attends college and works in the computer security field.

A graduate of McKean High School, Mike holds an associate’s degree from Delaware Technical & Community College and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wilmington University. In addition, Mike attended the Police Executive Research forum at Harvard University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

As the State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Vice President and President for over 10 years, Mike represented over 2,200 police officers in Delaware. He is a past President of the FOP Eastern State Coalition representing 14 states and has held numerous leadership positions at the local, state and national levels.

Mike is a board member of the Delaware Police Chiefs’ Foundation and is chairperson of the education committee. In 2006, he initiated a diversified statewide mentoring program for students interested in the field of criminal justice. An associate board member of Delaware Crime Stoppers and a member of the Delaware Coalition against Domestic Violence, Mike is also is a member of the National Council on Readiness & Preparedness and has attended seminars in Washington, D.C., and at Harvard University on the readiness of America in the event of a major disaster.

Presently, Mike sits on the board of Eagle Scouts for the Delmarva Council. He was a past scout master of Troop 250 and is currently an assistant scout master at Troop 56, which meets at the First Presbyterian Church in Newark. Active in his community, Mike is a board member of the Greater Hockessin Area Development Association and the Southwood Estates Maintenance Association.

Mike has an extensive background in law enforcement, public service, education and community involvement. Because he has been a strong advocate for inclusive local government, modernized education systems for all students, technology-based community policing, a clean environment, and responsible development, he is the right person to represent our community in Dover.
